Red Bowl Retro Ride

Welcome to the information portal for the first annual Red Bowl Retro Ride, brought to you by Over The Edge Sports and Dirt Rag Magazine.

When:  Sunday November 4th, 12:00pm (weather permitting, check the OTE FaceBook Page for trail info if it is threatening rain)

Where: Meet at Over The Edge Sports, 202 East Aspen, Fruita CO. 970-858-7220

The classic mountain bikes hanging from the ceiling of OTE have been un-ridden for too long.  We are getting them down for a mountain bike ride and we are inviting all our friends to tag along.  We will meet at the shop and then leave for an afternoon group ride on local trails.

What to bring:  Any "classic" 1980's or 1990's mountain bike.  Preferably something old, cool, or rare.  Ancient full suspension bikes get big points! (must be in safe working condition)

The Competition:  Riders will vote for the rider and bike that best look the part of the time period.  For example, Rider A may bring a mint condition Proflex with a Girvin Fork, and Spinergy Spox wheels, but lose to Rider B who has the same bike, but who wore neon lycra, a styrofoam bowl helmet, and Oakley Blade sunglasses.   The point of this is to look the way you did in the 1980's or 1990's while riding your 1980's or 1990's bike.

The Rules: (more like guidelines)

- Riding with modern pedals will not count against style points.  We'll all be struggling to ride bikes with 150mm stems, no need to get hurt because you couldn't get your foot out of a toe clip pedal.

- Bikes must be 1999 and older.

- Please note that if your normal everyday bike is from the 1980's or 1990's and you still swear by toe clip pedals this event is not for you.  We are celebrating our neon lycra, long stem, narrow bar past.  If every ride is still this way for you, then you're missing the point.  We will likely poke fun at you behind your back or maybe even to your face. If you end up offended- you were warned.

- All participants will write the name and bike they most thought best fit their time period and then throw them in a big Red Bowl to be tallied.

- Although Over The Edge Sports is hosting the pre-ride event, they are not in anyway responsible for you out on the trails.  Ride at your own risk and be prepared.
-Dirt Rag Magazine photographer's Greg Luck and Landon Monholland will be photographing the event for the magazine so you might end up in print.

-The rider and bike who wins the vote will get first pick from the Red Bowl.

Remember..."RED BOWL GIVES YOU THINGS!"
